THIS IS ME

Professional, result and future oriented, practical, innovative, open minded, positively critical and enjoying life

Background

Daughter of an adventurous set of parents, born in South Africa, raised in Mozambique followed by Haiti and India until age of twelve when it was time to explore my Dutch roots. Growing up abroad gave me life experiences which set the tone for my professional career. I did my Masters Tropical Landuse at Wageningen University gaining field experience in Brazil, Ethiopia and Madagascar on topics related to watershed management, soil- and water conservation and socio-economic analyses. After having successfully obtained my degree, I became a volunteer with FAO Madagascar, followed by a unique opportunity to join SNV Niger, as junior advisor on pastoralism. Advising the local land tenure committees and working on land tenure policies. It is in Niger where I first came into contact with value chains and market systems.

After three years in Niger, SNV Rwanda followed, where I joined the agricultural advisory team, organising events, advising different local actors in the value chains of beekeeping and later also coffee, again more value chain focused.

Five years into my career with an NGO, it was time for a change and I joined a Amsterdam based cocoa and coffee trader, with subsidiaries Continaf, Nedcoffee and Daarnhouwer, where I became responsible for setting up our sustainabiliy policy and managing sustainable sourcing projects for our operations in West Africa and South-East Asia, partnering herein with our clients, government and different local and International NGOs. After five eventful years in the cocoa and coffee sector I decided to broaden my horizon and joined AgriProFocus, a network organisation promoting sustainable agribusiness in Africa and Asia (Indonesia) in view of contributing to global food security and nutrition. This I combined with a job as project manager for a Dutch subsidy programme called YEP (Young Expert Programmes). Though I kept learning and growing professionaly I knew it was time to set things up for myself and ambitiously setting up my own consultancy, combining with a Executive MBA at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. A journey towards my longer term ambitions of managing my own agribusiness in a country where it matters.
